This post explores Intuitive Inteligence

Intuition: Could it be the Highest form of Intelligence?

Police do it. Bankers do it. Mechanics do it. Parents do it. And you’ve probably already done it several times today. What is ‘it’? Tapped into, and used, the information your Intuitive Intelligence made available to you.

Call it a gut feeling, a hunch, a vibe, a feeling about a person, a sense that something isn’t right, an inner knowing about a situation..…it all speaks to Intuitive Intelligence.

To be clear, in this post when I refer to Intuition, I’m not describing ‘getting your fortune told’. Here, I’m talking about your Intuitive Intelligence, which you have available to you in the same way that you have Emotional Intelligence, Intellectual Intelligence, Social Intelligence and Physical Intelligence. And, as with each of these, you have the ability to develop your Intuitive Intelligence so that you get more use out of it.

One of the best descriptions of Intuitive Intelligence I’ve come across is from The Human Company:

“Intuitive Intelligence lies beyond the boundaries of science and analytics. It bridges the realms of reality and imagination, reason and instinct, material and spiritual dimensions of human existence. Intuitive Intelligence is non-linear…..”

An Additional Resource of Information

When you develop your Intuitive Skills, and with it the ability to tap into your Intuitive Intelligence at will, you have an additional resource from which to draw information. Given that no one ever really has all the information on any particular topic, Intuitive Intelligence becomes a highly valuable resource in its ability to give you additional information from an expansive point of view. With it, another window opens through which you can look at something. This gives you more to consider and as a result, your perspective broadens. With more, you can do more.

In tapping into and using your Intuitive Intelligence, in no way does it make you a less rational, less grounded or a less productive person. In fact, I believe that our ability to live life intelligently dramatically increases when we use all forms of our intelligence, in much the same way as our ability to speak English dramatically improves when we use all the letters of the alphabet.

In his book Gut Feelings: The Intelligence of the Unconsciousness, author and director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Gerd Gigerenzer says:

“In my scientific work, I have hunches. I can’t explain always why I think a certain path is a right way, but I need to trust it and go ahead. I also have the ability to check these hunches and find out what they are about. That’s the science part. Now, in private life, I rely on instinct. For instance, when I first met my wife, I didn’t do computations. Nor did she.”

I do believe that Intuitive Intelligence is of higher nature. I agree with The Human Company, that it has the ability to bridge so many realms of our physical and non-physical experiences of life and I think we are remiss to not value, teach and develop it as much as our other more recognized forms of Intelligence.
